AQI, NowCast AQI, and Sensirion VOC Index are reported as follows.

  • USA AQI: According to the USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for PM2.5 and PM10 calculates the 24-hour average concentrations of particulate matter, providing a comprehensive reflection of air quality over a period of time on a scale from 0 to 500[1].
  • USA NowCast AQI: It takes a full 24 hours to obtain an AQI value, and it is not valid to use shorter-term (e.g., hourly) data to calculate a PM2.5 and PM10 AQI value. EPA's AirNow provides a real-time reporting method in rapidly changing air quality conditions, such as during fire events[1][2].
  • Sensirion VOC Index: The VOC Index is an output of the Gas Index Algorithm process by the manufacturer, which represents the VOCs level and mimics the human nose's perception of odors with a relative intensity compared to recent history[3].

Breakpoints for the AQI[1]

Category AQI PM2.5 Concentration (µg/m³) PM10 Concentration (µg/m³) Description
Good 0 - 50 0 - 9 0 - 54 Air quality is satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.
Moderate 51 - 100 9.1 - 35.4 55 - 154 Air quality is acceptable. However, there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 101 - 150 35.5 - 55.4 155 - 254 Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is less likely to be affected.
Unhealthy 151 - 200 55.5 - 125.4 255 - 354 Some members of the general public may experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.
Very Unhealthy 201 - 300 125.5 - 225.4 355 - 424 Health alert: The risk of health effects is increased for everyone.
Hazardous 301+ 225.5+ 425+ Health warning of emergency conditions: everyone is more likely to be affected.

Breakpoints for the VOCs[3]

Category VOC Index Description
Fan Off 0 - 150 Air quality is satisfactory with minimal VOCs in the indoor environment. No need to turn on the air purifier.
Minimum Fan Power 150 - 250 Air quality is acceptable, but some people may be at risk. Use the minimum fan power if possible.
Medium Fan Power 250 - 400 Sensitive groups may experience health effects. Medium fan power is recommended for the air purifier.
Maximum Fan Power 400 - 500 VOC levels are very high. It is strongly suggested to open windows for fresh air and use the air purifier at maximum power.

Real-time air quality insights

  • PM 2.5: Fine particulate matter that can penetrate deep into the lungs.
  • PM 10: Coarse particles affecting respiratory health.
  • Sensirion VOC Index: Volatile Organic Compounds, indicating the presence of harmful chemicals. VOCs are a combination of gases and odors emitted from many different toxins and chemicals found in everyday products

By providing real-time data, we ensure a proactive approach to maintaining a healthier and safer environment for everyone. Stay informed and take control of the air you breathe.
